Mind Control - The Clear Pill That Makes You Super Human

This is a promo for the movie "Limitless" which I saw recently on Neflix.

The movie got me thinking about human potential and even if there isn't a real NZT pill if we acted as if we were on one we each might do better.

It was the whole reason I wrote "The Forbidden Book of Getting What You Want".

Police Mind Control Techniques (PSYOPS) Used Against Occupy Toronto

When the NYPD clashed with the Occupy Wall Street encampment, it wasn't without bloodshed. Similarly, police across the United States and Canada were raiding the encampments and often using tactics that many decried were brutal and underhanded. Except in Toronto. A week after a failed eviction, they were now faced with a midnight eviction approved by the courts. In response, a number of Occupy Toronto protesters chained themselves to a yurt and a few trees in the park. Hours later and a few words from the police over a loudspeaker, the park cleared. Occupiers even chatted to the news about how nice the police were. WHAT?

I can't speak for the entire day, but there is an interesting tactic that you can see here.

Since the previous protests at the G20 summit, the Toronto police have purchased 4 Long Range Acoustic Devices (LRAD). Make no mistake, the LRAD is not your normal PA system - it goes to 11. It is a weapon that blasts painful levels of sound toward a more precisely aimed location. Outside of it's 30 degree range, it is far quieter. But the police didn't use it the way the US army used it to blast at "terrorists" in Iraq. What they did is quite ingenious.

After loudspeakers had been banned at the New York Occupy site, the entire Occupy movement resorted to the "Mic Test" method of speaking to crowds. The speaker would speak a phrase, and the closest group of people would repeat it. Then the people behind them would repeat it, etc until everyone has repeated the sentence or phrase. While practical when speaking to large groups without amplification, it also mimics the act of making an oath or taking vow. For example, the Girl Guides do that "I promise (I promise) To do my duty (To do my duty)…" call and response sequence. It is a technique often used to demonstrate and promote agreement and unity, whether it be military role call, a ceremonial rite of marriage, or a fists-in-the-air rights demonstration.

This 'Mic Test' behaviour is what the Toronto police took advantage of.

The police brought an LRAD to the encampment, but did not use it's weaponized capacity for volume. Instead of bringing a PA speaker which would have been easily heard by everyone, the police used the LRAD on low volume limiting who could hear it. The protesters responded by doing a "Mic Check" every statement from the officer so that people outside of the range would know what was being said.

A stage hypnotist's routine typically starts with, "Stand here. Okay, now put your feet together. Okay now…" The hypnotist says something - you comply. They say something else - you comply again. This compliance loop acclimatizes the subject to following instructions without putting any critical thought into it. Once they are getting no resistance, the hypnotist can use other techniques to make it appear like you are under their spell. The police similarly got the Occupy protesters to act out unifying compliance-inducing acts while synchronously avowing that they would leave peacefully. And then they did.

In speaking to the press, protesters who went from being chained to objects in the park to leaving peacefully, actually praised the police for amicably resolving the issues. Are the 1% suddenly unable to buy politicians? Did they describe a means to shrink the ever-widening wealth gap? Somehow they must be talking about a different set of issues than when they first moved into the park? I can't read any of those police-praising quotes without remembering the line you always see in ads for hypnosis courses: Use Hypnosis To Make Your People Obey Your Every Command… AND THANK YOU FOR IT!

If someone is inducing you to mindlessly follow their lead, shouting something aloud that goes against what you believe,  you are being manipulated. Learn to recognize when you are asked or required to do compliance-oriented activities. Learn to actively resist mind control.

Mind Control - Walking through doorways causes forgetting, new research shows

http://newsinfo.nd.edu

We’ve all experienced it: The frustration of entering a room and forgetting what we were going to do. Or get. Or find.

New research from University of Notre Dame Psychology Professor Gabriel Radvansky suggests that passing through doorways is the cause of these memory lapses.

“Entering or exiting through a doorway serves as an ‘event boundary’ in the mind, which separates episodes of activity and files them away,” Radvansky explains.

“Recalling the decision or activity that was made in a different room is difficult because it has been compartmentalized.”

The study was published recently in the Quarterly Journal of Experimental Psychology.

Conducting three experiments in both real and virtual environments, Radvansky’s subjects – all college students – performed memory tasks while crossing a room and while exiting a doorway.

In the first experiment, subjects used a virtual environment and moved from one room to another, selecting an object on a table and exchanging it for an object at a different table. They did the same thing while simply moving across a room but not crossing through a doorway.

Radvansky found that the subjects forgot more after walking through a doorway compared to moving the same distance across a room, suggesting that the doorway or “event boundary” impedes one’s ability to retrieve thoughts or decisions made in a different room.

The second experiment in a real-world setting required subjects to conceal in boxes the objects chosen from the table and move either across a room or travel the same distance and walk through a doorway. The results in the real-world environment replicated those in the virtual world: walking through a doorway diminished subjects’ memories.

The final experiment was designed to test whether doorways actually served as event boundaries or if one’s ability to remember is linked to the environment in which a decision – in this case, the selection of an object – was created. Previous research has shown that environmental factors affect memory and that information learned in one environment is retrieved better when the retrieval occurs in the same context. Subjects in this leg of the study passed through several doorways, leading back to the room in which they started. The results showed no improvements in memory, suggesting that the act of passing through a doorway serves as a way the mind files away memories.

Mind Control - Will future wars be fought in the head?

 Ali Khaled

Not even Albert Einstein could foresee the future. "I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones," he said. One of the fathers of the atom bomb may have predicted the proliferation of nuclear weapons, but even he could hardly have foreseen what may be coming next: Now it seems future wars may take place, quite literally, in the head.

In a recent study published online in Synesis, scientists have claimed that "neuroweapons" - technologies that have the capacity to infiltrate the human brain - will in the not-too-distant future revolutionise the way wars are fought.

Cyber-warfare, and its evil twin cyberterrorism, are already here of course. But this new development raises the role of technology in warfare to a whole new level.

The report says that among the new brain technologies are "a pill that makes prisoners talk, deadly toxins that can shut down brain function in minutes, or super-soldiers who rely on brain chips to quickly lock in on an enemy's location".

Such advanced mind games may still be a few years away, but the moral implications are clear. And in a week in which US Republican presidential candidates have performed verbal gymnastics to redefine exactly what constitutes "torture", it doesn't take an Einstein, or even a Rick Perry, to see that a can of worms is slowly being pried open.

Mind warfare, or Psychological Operations (Psy Ops) as the US military calls it, is nothing new of course. As memorably portrayed in the book The Men Who Stare At Goats by Jon Ronson, and the George Clooney film adaptation, the US armed forces have long explored the potential of what psychological techniques might bring to military applications and interrogation methods.
The US State Department defines Psy Ops as "the planned use of propaganda and other psychological actions having the primary purpose of influencing the opinions, emotions, attitudes, and behaviour of hostile foreign groups in such a way as to support the achievement of national objectives".

But propaganda is one thing, and planting chips in people's brains is quite another.

The justification for neuroweapons, like the reason for targeted strikes in the Gulf War 21 years ago, is that they would minimise civilian casualties by hitting only specific enemy personnel and locations. The reality, as the sorry tales of Guantanamo and Abu Ghraib have shown, is that thanks to wide-scale security measures such as the Patriot Act in the US and other draconian laws and practices around the world, innocent civilians can still easily become caught up in the seemingly endless "war on terror".

But is it morally acceptable to use such methods on what would likely be prisoners of war? Should mind control be kept out of conventional warfare, if such a thing even exists any more? Where would the Geneva Convention stand on this issue?
If these methods are employed successfully, then it's a safe bet that this ethical debate would be adroitly avoided by governments. But as we all know, not all governments are equal: one regime's interrogation tactic is another's terrorist method.

Once neuroweapons are in the "wrong" hands - and there's no reason to assume they eventually wouldn't be - you can be sure that those who developed these weapons would be the first to cry foul. Would Western powers, for example, tolerate the likes of North Korea and Iran employing such tactics?

Over 200 neuroscientists from 18 countries have already signed a petition pledging that new technologies will not be used for military purposes. Then again, speaking against the atom bomb, Einstein said, "past thinking and methods did not prevent world wars. Future thinking must prevent wars".

A future of sticks and stones is more likely.

Mind Control - How To Strengthen Your Will

David Blaine — the 38-year-old self-described “endurance artist’’ who once encased himself for seven days in a plastic coffin with no food and little water — credits willpower training for his amazing feats. “Getting your brain wired into little goals and achieving them helps you achieve the bigger things you shouldn’t be able to do,’’ he told Roy Baumeister in the Florida State University psychologist’s new book, “Willpower.’’ “It’s not just practicing the specific thing.’’

In dozens of studies conducted over the past 25 years, Baumeister has found that taking on specific habits - like brushing your teeth with the opposite hand you’d normally use - can increase levels of self-control. In a phone interview, he likened willpower to a muscle: “If you exercise it, you can make it stronger. There’s nothing magical about it.’’

He and others have also identified a host of things that can drain our willpower, including hunger and fatigue, while neuroscientists are struggling to understand exactly how the brain’s higher reasoning center - the prefrontal cortex - manages conflicting wants and needs to help us make the right decisions. The reason for all this interest? Willpower, it turns out, is one of the most important predictors of success in life.

While small studies through the years have linked high levels of self-control to better health, relationships, and finances, a landmark study published this past January provided the strongest evidence to date. In the study, Duke University researchers culled data from a group of more than 1,000 New Zealand young adults followed for three decades and found that those who scored high on tests for self-control when they were 3 years old were far more likely to be healthy and financially successful as adults than those who did poorly on the self-control tests in preschool.

Facing a decision over whether to eat a nutritious apple or decadent chocolate bar activates the brain’s prefrontal cortex. The right side propels you to say no to the chocolate temptation while the left side encourages you to say yes to the apple to curb your hunger.

The researchers took into account differences in childhood socioeconomic class and IQ scores, and determined that 11 percent of those with the highest levels of self-control as children had multiple health problems as adults, such as obesity, gum disease, and sexually transmitted diseases, compared with 27 percent of those with the lowest levels of self-control. Thirteen percent of those with high self-control had been convicted of crimes compared with 43 percent of those with the lowest levels, and just 10 percent in the high self-control group earned less than $17,000 a year compared with 32 percent in the lowest group.

The researchers also found that self-control variations among siblings pointed to their success decades later. “Differences between children in self-control predicted their adult outcomes approximately as well as low intelligence and low social class origins,’’ wrote the study authors.

Those striving to complete a marathon, a diet, or a doctoral dissertation can gain the willpower to help reach their goals by doing little self-control tasks throughout the day, like fixing their posture, avoiding curse words, or controlling their temper at home, according to Baumeister. And those who engage regularly in high-willpower activities like exercise, meditation, or learning a new language or craft tend to exhibit higher levels of self-control in other areas of their lives. Neuroscientists believe these acts reinforce neural pathways in the brain’s prefrontal cortex that help us say “yes’’ to our goals and “no’’ to procrastination and temptation.

The brain’s ventromedial prefrontal cortex helps with goal planning and the making of longterm decisions. It holds memories of what type of person you believe yourself to be and helps you act like that person.

Exerting willpower, however, requires the brain to use a lot of energy in the form of glucose, which it may not have if you are hungry or not able to metabolize glucose as efficiently due to lack of sleep or stress. “All of these things cause mild dysfunction in the prefrontal cortex,’’ said Stanford University psychologist Kelly McGonigal, author of the forthcoming book “The Willpower Instinct.’’ “It’s as if you have brain damage in areas you need to have self-control. And that turns you into the worst version of yourself’’ - the one who snaps at the kids, misses the work deadline, and attacks the ice cream in the freezer.

Recent brain imaging studies indicate that different regions of the prefrontal cortex are responsible for different elements of willpower. The left side revs you up and gets you moving through your to-do list, while the right side helps you avoid temptations that derail your diet, work, or exercise regimen. A smaller brain region in the middle - called the ventromedial prefrontal cortex - helps you weigh the myriad decisions coursing through your mind minute to minute. Should you check your Facebook feed or write that memo? Will you have a chocolate chip cookie or an apple? How will you respond to your child’s whining?

The anterior cingulate cortex regulates conflict that arises as soon as you want that piece of chocolate. It notices craving and sends signals predicting what will happen if you do eat the chocolate and what will happen if you don’t.

Those with high levels of self-control often make better decisions because they consider long-term goals rather than just the instant gratification, due possibly to better coordination among all of their brain regions involved in willpower. When California Institute of Technology researchers performed functional MRI scans on 37 dieters for a 2009 study published in the journal Science, they found that dieters with high levels of self-control considered both health and taste when making food choices and that both their ventromedial prefrontal cortex and their left prefrontal cortex were highly active when making these choices. Dieters with low self-control considered only taste when making food choices and had high activity in their ventromedial prefrontal cortex, with much lower activity in the other brain region.

“We’re still trying to figure out the basic mechanisms by which the prefrontal cortex controls willpower,’’ said Earl Miller, a professor of neuroscience at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology who studies the neural circuitry of self-control. “We know that those who have damage to their prefrontal cortex due to a stroke or other brain injury often behave in a reflexive, mindless way’’ without any thought of consequences. But, he adds, researchers still haven’t figured out exactly how the brain learns appropriate behavior like muting a cellphone during a concert or whispering in a library.

What is clear is that just like a muscle, willpower can get depleted when it’s overused. In a 2009 study involving 84 college students, Baumeister found that those assigned to write an essay without using words containing common letters - which required a lot of willpower - were more likely to dishonestly report their scores on a subsequent math test to earn a small monetary reward than those who were instructed to write an essay without the same restrictions.

Yes, being honest and avoiding the temptation to cheat both require self-control.

“What I learned is that everything comes out of the same pot,’’ Baumeister said. “There are times when you have to give yourself a break and realize that when you’re coping with high demands at work, you may not have much willpower left when you get home.’’

That could mean doing a shorter workout that day, putting off the bill-paying until tomorrow, or doing an activity that requires minimal effort from the brain, like a bubble bath - all of which allow your willpower muscle to rest and grow stronger. During times when you need to push through a gargantuan set of tasks, research suggests that ingesting a small amount of sugar, like a half a can of cola or a few jelly beans, can provide the brain with the extra glucose it needs to exert more self-control. (Emphasis here is on small amount, according to Baumeister, who conducted studies on this.)
While we all give in to sinful urges on occasion, berating or shaming ourselves into getting back on course may actually be counterproductive, said McGonigal, leading to more slip-ups down the road. One study found that those who forgave themselves for failing at a task were more likely to brush themselves off and try again, while other researchers demonstrated that dieters given a pep talk after eating a doughnut - emphasizing that one small setback wouldn’t ruin all their hard efforts - were less likely to indulge later on than doughnut eaters who didn’t have the talk.

“If we want to have more willpower, we have to learn to be a friend and mentor to ourselves,’’ said McGonigal, “rather than equating self-control with self-criticism.’’

Mind Control - Hints To Remember Better

  1. Understand thoroughly what is to be remembered and/or memorized
  2. Spot what is to be memorized verbatim. It is a good plan to use a special marking symbol in text and notebook to indicate parts and passages, rules, data, and all other information that is to be memorized instead of just understood and remembered
  3. If verbatim memory is required, go over the material or try to repeat at odd times.
  4. Think about what you are trying to learn. Find an interest in the material if you wish to memorize it with ease.
  5. Study first the items that you want to remember longest.
  6. Learn complete units at one time, as that is the way it will have to be recalled.
  7. Overlearn to make certain.
  8. Analyze material and strive to intensify the impressions the material makes.
  9. Use concrete imagery whenever possible. Close your eyes and get a picture of the explanation and summary answer. Try to see it on the page. See the key words underlined.
  10. Make your own applications, examples, and illustrations.
  11. Reduce the material to be remembered to your own self-made system or series of numbered steps.
  12. Represent the idea graphically by use of pictorial or diagrammatic forms.
  13. Make a list of key words most useful in explaining the idea or content of the lesson.
  14. Form a variety of associations among the points you wish to remember. The richer the associations, the better the memory.
  15. Try making the idea clear to a friend without referring to your book or notes.
  16. Actually write out examination questions on the material you think you might get at the end of the term. Then write the answers to your own questions. Since you now have the chance, consult the text or your notes to improve your answers.
  17. Follow suggestions for reviewing. This is an important part of remembering.

Alex Jones: Fritz Springmeier - Illuminati Mind Control

Learn How The
Illuminati Wants to
 CONTROL YOUR MIND

I have written about Fritz Springmeier many times in passing. He has appeared at least once on this blog ("Al Gore and the Suitcase of Blood"), several times on Swallowing the Camel, and quite a few times on blogs dealing with "Satanic panic".

It would be exhausting and rather pointless to detail his entire career here, but if you're unfamiliar with Springmeier, here are some details you may want to know:

  • Born in 1955, he used the name Victor Earl Schoof until legally changing it to Fritz Springmeier in 1987.
  • He says he attended West Point, but did not.
  • He professes to be a very religious man, and once ran a sort of Christian lay ministry (he is not an ordained minister, and does not have any theological training).
  • In 1997 he allegedly circulated a strange "affidavit", accusing several other Christian ministers, including Alex Jones's mentor Texe Marrs, or trying to sabotage this ministry. "Several people have told me my ex-wife is controlled by demons and given her life to Satan," he wrote of his second wife, Gail.
  • To his mind, every religious tradition outside of the Judeo-Christian is basically Satanism. This includes ancient Egyptian beliefs, Theosophy, and any form of occultism. Oh, and Jehovah's Witnesses. And the Catholic Church. Ina 1996 Prophecy Club lecture, Springmeier said every human on Earth is tracked from birth to death by Jesuit priests.
  • His conspiracy writing and lectures have been a huge influence on David Icke. Much of Springmeier's misinfo has made it into Icke's books. For example, the Belgian castle called Chateau Amerois is referred to by both Springmeier and Icke as the "Mothers of Darkness" castle, in which the elite hold ghastly Satanic rituals and slaughter children.
  • In the early '90s, he became deeply interested in the subject of government mind control programs, and trained himself to be a deprogrammer of women who allegedly survived "Project Monarch", a supposed offshoot of MK-ULTRA*. He ended up leaving his second wife and young son for one of these women, Cisco Wheeler. Together they authored books and gave lectures on Illuminati mind control techniques. Their best-known work is the massive book The Illuminati Formula Used to Create an Undetectable Mind Controlled Slave.
  • Cisco Wheeler, like all alleged Monarch victims, was deliberately programmed to have multiple personalities (Dissociative Identity Disorder). One of her alter personalities was a cat.
  • Springmeier's take on history is, um, creative. In the Prophecy Club lecture cited above, he declared that Hitler was descended from the Rothschilds. You'll see more of his unique interpretations of history later in this post.
  • He really, and I mean really, hates The Wizard of Oz. He's convinced it's a Satanic parable used in the mind control programming and ritual torture of young children. He thinks the same of every film, book, and TV show that appears to reference Oz in any way (for instance, the movie K-Pax).
  • In his book Bloodlines of the Illuminati, Springmeier attempted to identify the 13 families that have controlled the world for centuries. His M.O. was to tick off lists of prominent people with the same last name, without bothering to ascertain if they were actually related to one another, then link them to the Illuminati by the most tenuous connections. For example, reporter Robert Collins was implicated simply because he had the surname Collins and because the Illuminati "control the press" (Springmeier provided no evidence that the Illuminati does, in fact, control the press). Likewise, he tied serial killer Ted Bundy to the Bundy/McBundy families, and explained that his sadistic sociopathic condition is quite typical of Illuminati members, even though Bundy's name came from a working class stepfather.
  • In the '80s, he vociferously defended "former Illuminati member" John Todd long after Todd's stories were shown to be fraudulent. The late Mr. Todd was a "Christian" con artist posing as a former Satanist. He was also a convicted rapist. Though he had a long history of complaints against him for propositioning teenage girls, and faced related criminal charges several times, Springmeier insisted that Todd's rape conviction was a frame-up by (who else?) the Illuminati. At one point, he even claimed that Todd had been abducted from prison and murdered by Illuminati agents in 1994. This was not true. Todd was released from prison in 2004, was remanded into custody as a dangerous sex offender, and died a natural death three years later. Now, Springmeier uses the same cry of frame-up in reference to his own criminal activities.
  • In their book Deeper Insights Into the Illuminati Formula, Springmeier and Wheeler state that the Illuminati has been creating "synthetic humans" (made partly from cows) since the 1970s.
  • In 2001, he and his third wife, Patricia, were arrested for having a marijuana grow op in conjunction with a white supremacist, Forrest E. Bateman, Sr. Bateman was convicted in 1989 of racially intimidating a high school student in Forest Grove, Oregon, and three years later he appeared on the state police's Ten Most Wanted list for firearm offenses and assault connected to skinhead activities. And now we get to the heart of the matter...

Mind Control - 5 Steps to Developing More Discipline

http://michaelhyatt.com

My friend, Andy Andrews asks this question:
Can you make yourself do something you don’t want to do in order to get a result you really want?
If so, then you are disciplined—at least in that area.
The key is on focusing on a result you really want. In this sense, the key to discipline is goal-setting.
Over the years, I have found that I can become disciplined in any area of my life by taking five specific steps. Whether it is trying to get in shape, maintain a blog, or develop a great marriage, the psychology is the same.
  1. Determine your goal. Notice in Andy’s definition that the key is in knowing what you really want. If you are going to succeed, you must be specific. You must be able to see it. Write it down and—while you are at it—add a “by when” date.Example: I will lose 20 pounds of body fat by December 31, 2011.
  2. List your reasons. This is often the missing piece in both goal-setting and discipline. You have to ask, Why is this goal important? What is at stake in my achieving it? I list both the positive reasons and the negative.Example:
    • I want more energy.
    • I want to lower my cholesterol.
    • I don’t want to put myself at risk for heart disease.
    • I want to look more trim, especially on video.
    • I want to demonstrate that I can lead myself.
    • I want to be a good example to my family.
  3. Identify likely obstacles. As soon as you start swimming against the current, you will start feeling resistance. It’s as if the universe conspires to keep you from succeeding. That’s why you have to anticipate these obstacles and build strategies to overcome them.Examples:
    • Obstacle: Mindlessly eating for lunch what I always eat. Strategy: Plan my lunch before I leave the house—where and what I will eat.
    • Obstacle: Inability to work out on the road. Strategy: Make sure the hotel has a workout room before I book it. Also, pack my workout clothes and shoes.
    • Obstacle: Eating more calories than I intend. Strategy: Record everything in LoseIt, thus educating myself about the calorie-count of various foods.
  4. Develop new behaviors. This is where you should focus. What are the positive, new behaviors you want to develop to replace the old, negative behaviors.Examples:
    • Drink two-and-a-half liters of water a day to stay hydrated.
    • Eat healthy snacks like raw almonds, celery, carrots, etc.
    • Share entrees with Gail when we eat out, so that I eat half the normal serving.
    • Chose simple grilled fish rather than beef or chicken.
  5. Stay focused. Read your goals daily, review your reasons why, anticipate obstacles, and work on your new behaviors. If you get off-track, don’t beat yourself up. Sometimes it is three steps forward and two steps back. Just shake it off and re-lock on your goal.
Discipline is not really about will-power so much as it is focusing on what you really want. If you get clear on that, it suddenly becomes much easier.

Mind Control - 7 Not So Obvious Habits To Maximize Your Productivity

http://www.lifehack.org

I was a big fan of productivity, and, in some respects, I still am. I’ve been a very early adopter of GTD, and, for years, I did my weekly reviews with the discipline of a zen monk. But, eventually, I hit a roadblock. GTD is about getting things “done”, but in life we have much more to experience than “doing”. We feel. We dream. We enjoy stuff without the pressure of an empty inbox. And, most of the time, we simply are. We’re existing. And that’s ok.

So, I confess I fell out from the GTD wagon. Gradually, I developed my own framework, which evolved from a productivity-based approach, to a life management based approach. I’m using it for about a year now and, as much as I can tell, so far, so good. If I compare what I accomplish now with what I used to accomplish a year ago, I’m stunned. Not only because I “do” much more than before, but because I actually live more.

But enough with all this shameless self-promotion intro. I understand that my framework may work perfectly for me, but may be of little, if any, importance for you.
So, instead of doing a presentation of the Assess – Decide – Do framework, I chose to isolate only 7 simple tips for today’s post. They don’t need any framework to be integrated with and they can be implemented by anyone, with a little bit of awareness. Try them for a week, one for each day of the week.
As a matter of fact, they’re even organized as such. As you will see, there’s a reason why each tip is assigned to a specific day, but then again, if you feel this isn’t really your Monday cup of tea, for instance, feel free to rotate them as you see fit.

1. Monday – Ignore The Unimportant

I firmly believe that the art of ignorance should be taught in schools. We live in such an information-rich society, our focus is so deeply challenged by dozens or hundreds of stimuli each and every second, that we have a really hard time focusing on what really matters.
Especially on Mondays, when all the previous week unprocessed stuff seems to crash on us, try to apply this. Focus only on what matters. If you have a presentation to finish in one hour, cut out everything – and I mean: EVERYTHING – that is not connected to it.
Slash out Twitter, Facebook, email. Turn off the music. Close the door after putting a big sign with “Abandon hope all ye who enter here” on the other side. In time, you’ll become better at this. The hidden frustration that “you’re missing something” will fade away.

2. Tuesday – Reward Yourself Constantly

Each tiny task that you finish is an achievement. We forget too often that our big successes are in fact big chains of small tasks performed on a daily basis. So, in order to keep this chaining process running, put a little reward at the end of each small task.
Tuesdays are great for this habit, because they’re the first link after the week hast started. Just do something nice at the end of each task. Listen to your favorite tune or read your favorite blog (and that would be, of course, Stepcase Lifehack) for the next five minutes.
As much as we won’t want to admit it, that Pavlov guy was right. And I’m not talking about the dogs here. I’m talking about you. Because you gotta be your own Pavlov and the dogs will be your productivity habits. Train them constantly. And, if need will be, feed them some sugar every now and then.

3. Wednesday – Negotiate The Expendable

It’s the middle of the week, and, by now, there must be some garbage accumulated. Some stuff that you don’t really need to do, but, somehow, it’s still in your to do list. It’s a perfect time to negotiate that stuff. Does it really need to be on your to do list?
The pressure of constantly doing, delivering, accomplishing made us forget that we do have this option too in our arsenal. I’m talking about negotiation. “Talk” with the task. Or with the person at the other end of the task. Does it really need to be done right now?
I compare this negotiation process with taking out the water from a gulf. If you’re lucky, you will see an ancient shipwreck. That’s your task. It’s not a yacht anymore, it’s a shipwreck. You will start to realize that what you thought is important, may not even be there anymore. It’s just the ghost of the task.

4. Thursday – Reuse Past Approaches

This comes from a long history of programming. I’m still doing it, this programming thing, by the way, because I enjoy it so much. Just try to look at what you have to do and compare it with previous experiences. Like “Have I done this before?. How did I do it?”
Thursdays are perfect for that, because you now must have a consistent “week work history” to dig through. And, allegedly, you’re also pretty much at the top of your potential. From now on, it will start to go downhill, somehow.
So, try to identify similarities in your work before you will do the same thing twice, just because you don’t remember doing it before. Pay attention to the circumstances, because they’re never the same, but isolate what you can repeat.

5. Friday – Ask For Help

If I would have a dollar for each time I didn’t ask for help when I should have, I would certainly be a millionaire. Seriously. Being “productive” has this aura of “I’m doing all the stuff by myself. I’m so cool.” Well, maybe you’re cool, but you don’t have to do anything by yourself.
You have a unique set of skills. Other people have their own unique set of skills. If you combine your set with their set, it’s absolutely obvious that you will get far better results than by using only yours. It’s just simple mathematics here.
And Fridays are perfect to test this habit, because, admit it, you’re a little bit tired. And it’s also a good pretext for some social interaction. Isolate some task that you know somebody else may be doing better than you and ask for their help.

6. Saturday – Switch Workplaces

Ok, we don’t have to work on Saturdays. As I told you, you can just put this tip on any other day of the week. But I chose Saturdays because they are perfect for traveling. Short trips around the town, seeing some new places, meeting some new people.
Try to do the same with your workplace. See if you can work for a day somewhere else. From home, or from a coffee shop. Or even in another office. Or, if you can’t live your office, on a different chair. Just change something in your surroundings.
All our habits are shaped by our surroundings. The more you’ll change the surroundings, the better and more consistent your habits will become. This constant stimulation will summon energy resources that you didn’t even know you have.

7. Sunday – Change Deadlines Into Livelines

I kept this from my GTD routine, you know, the weekly review. I did this on Sundays, trying to project the next week. I still try to have a look at the week just before it starts. And now, a little bit of explanation about the word “liveline”.
I stopped use the word “deadline” long time ago, because it has “death” in it. The “task slasher” approach. I don’t do this anymore. Because crossing off tasks from your to do lists will eventually end up with crossing off your entire life from your to do lists. Rushing straight to your own death, one crossed task at a time. Change this perspective. A deadline is not the end. Make it a liveline. Make it a beginning.
And by that I mean something connected with something else. A new start. Think in terms of new beginnings not in term of endings. If you really need to reach the end of something, use the word “milestone”. And replace “deadline” with “liveline” every time you can.
It will be enlightening, believe me. :)

Some Attributes Of Mind Control Techniques

Mind control techniques have to be applied in such a way that the individual in no way knows that you are applying any techniques on him to alter his thoughts, behavior or actions in such a way as desired by you. In all probability you would have heard about subconscious mind. Nevertheless, you might not be aware of its control more than the actions of people. Emotions and feelings have an effect on the subconscious mind and they covertly control the believed method and behavioral pattern of people. This component of the mind controls a person’s irrational thoughts and actions.

Suppose you are a factory worker and your boss is not permitting you to avail the vacation. This will instigate bad feelings in your subconscious mind and just about every time you think about this, your anger towards your boss will increase. You know that you are helpless in controlling the anger. If you intend to influence the subconscious mind of the other people, you have to learn mind control techniques.

The 1st thing you need to do is to establish rapport with the person whom you want to control. It will be simpler to establish rapport with your loved ones members or pals. But in the case of strangers and acquaintances you will have to apply some mind control techniques. The initial thing you can do to establish rapport with such an individual is to talk with that individual for some time. Though talking care need to to be taken to see that you talk with him in the affirmative tone, praise his excellent qualities, and take him into confidence. You can crack some jokes to make the atmosphere more relaxed. You can also adjust the tone of your conversation to that of the individual with whom you are applying mind control techniques and if doable can use gestures comparable to him. This will aid to narrow the gap between you and the other person.

Click the image and ...
the WORLD can by  Yours!
By establishing this rapport, the vital mind of the person you are trying to influence will be weakened. Important mind is that part of the mind, which evaluates situations and takes choices. You can share your private matters (of course, not genuine matters) with him that will improve his trust in you. If the person thinks that you like him and think about him as a worthy man, naturally he will also have a friendly attitude towards you. This attitude has to be developed to a robust bond in his subconscious mind.

Once this stage is reached, the important mind of the individual weakens further. Make use of the person’s imagination to reach a much more relaxed state. Take the person you want to control to a globe of imagination and make him reach a state of trance by using mind control techniques. At this state, he will be preparing some actions to reach the imaginative word that he is in. Now you can make your suggestions to boost the behavior of the person and his subconscious mind will definitely accept your suggestions and act accordingly.

Reaching Your Goals Via Mind Control Techniques.

Mind Control - What is THIS about?

http://itp.nyu.edu/~ak2924/MyBlog/?p=1223

I guess it all started here:

Mitch Altmans “Brain Machine” is microcontroller-driven sound and light (AV) device that employes the concept of Binaural Beats to allegedly alter states of consciousness. I was interested in the idea of consciousness-control via technology. It is not an absurd idea that technology itself may be a contributer to the various (and increasingly accepted) pharmaceutically treated “psychological disorders”. To me, it is an active feeling not-needing definition or articulation. The urban/metro lifestyle comes flashing its invasive barrage of media spectacles. Some think it charming. For me, it activates an undeniable sense of un-ease. A feeling that i am not-in control of my mental facilities. I feel it takes effect. It feels like information assault.
Consciousness-control is embraced by popular-culture. As a story, it has inspired countless a sci-fi films/books. As a ideology, it has motivated cult/outsider movements. The subject has warranted extensive scientific, academic and government research, The general interest and investigation begs the question; why is this subject still shrouded in taboo?

The idea that there may be something beyond our understanding is an idea that surely dates further than documentation represents. It dates to that very first moment, the moment of the first conscious doubt ever experienced…. The initial “Doubt”, experienced by some primitive early human who just happened to have a winning combo of sensory development. This lottery win of bio-enviro-electro variables allowed “doubt” to be perceived. And from the first moment of doubt, the endless question was born.
Anyhow, these ideas, in turn, led me to this:

An artwork by James Turrell titled Bindu Shards. Bindu Shards was a continuation of Turrell’s “perceptual cell” series and was designed to emmersively alter a single user/viewers state of conciseness. I was hired to develop the audio and light composition which was based on my research into Binaural Beats. The sphere was exhibited at Gagosian Gallery in London and was an intensive exploration into the effect of stimulus on an individual and the most effective way to design a system/environment to control these specific types of stimulus. At the point of exhibition, we had developed an effective instrument…. But what was left was the need for controlled testing, data feedback and analysis. I wondered what is REALLY going on here??

The “what is really going on ” question has led me to further exploration of the effects of phenomenological stimulus on the individual. And why is it such a popular fringe-notion? Perhaps simply because the very core of an “alternate-reality” is, in definition, ‘alternate’ and unknown to our conscious reality. The innate un-knowability of an idea/hunch/feeling is possibly against current scientific method? “In-conclusive evidence”? A “lack of control in experiments”? “Fuzzy Data”? No one seems to know.

Science aside, I like to think of it as intuitive vs. fantasticle. Too much information makes me feel unease. Its as simple as that. Could there be a way to exercise my cerebral “muscles”? Beef up my intellectual defenses? Is consciousness like a muscle? Could attention and practice allow development of areas we cant yet percieve? And if so, what methods and tools are effective in this exploration? So now its’ my thesis subject.

Mind Control - Christian Cult Indoctrination On A Mass Scale

'Bible Answer Man' Hank Hanegraaff Defends Teen Mania Ministries

http://www.bing.com/videos/watch/video/mind-over-mania/6d7839v

Wed, Nov. 09, 2011 Posted: 09:23 PM EDT

A widely respected Christian researcher and radio host is defending Teen Mania Ministries after an MSNBC documentary portrayed the group as a cult.

Hank Hanegraaff, president of the Christian Research Institute and host of the radio program “Bible Answer Man,” has released his critique of the documentary, which aired on Sunday night. In the critique, he describes the documentary as “a case study in sophistry, sloppy journalism, and sensationalism.”

MSNBC's documentary “Mind Over Mania” is disturbing at first glance. Young people are shown at a Teen Mania Ministries event crawling through mud, eating worms and pushing themselves to their physical and emotional limits. The experts featured in the film suggest the ministry operates like a cult and uses mind control tactics on young people. TMM, however, says the film's claims against the ministry are “outrageous” and inaccurate.

In support of Teen Mania, Hanegraaff first addresses the film's allegations that the ministry brainwashes interns who enroll at its Honor Academy. The film features mind control recovery experts Doug and Wendy Duncan, who use Robert Jay Lifton's Thought Reform and the Psychology of Totalism: A Study of Brainwashing in China to try to show TMM as a cult.

The problem, Hanegraaff says, is their evidence falls short of their accusations, and “many of the arguments proffered against TMM could just as easily be used to establish historic Christianity as a thought reform cult.” He says the model the Duncans used to attempt to prove their point has been “utterly discredited.”

Kelly Schwalbert, a former Honor Academy attendee, wrote in a blog post that she never experienced abuse or mind-control tactics as an intern.

“I would not classify myself, while at Teen Mania, as under mind-control,” she wrote. “I was not brainwashed. I knew enough about God and myself to read the Bible and follow the Bible. The leadership I was under did not make me 'conform' to anything.”

Schwalbert later showed sympathy for those who had bad experiences with TMM, but emphasized that “it is not a cult.”
Later, Hanegraaff's critique moves on to accuse MSNBC of showing images of interns “gagging” on worms in order to stir up an emotional response, but he says NBC's “Fear Factor” show was popular at the time the video footage was taken. He also said TMM no longer does that particular activity during its camp.

“Mind Over Mania” also never acknowledges that ESOAL (Emotionally Stretching Opportunity of A Lifetime) campers knew how challenging the event would be going into it, and they could have stopped participating at any time. The ESOAL camp has been changed drastically since the shooting of those video clips, Teen Mania founder Ron Luce told The Christian Post, and its name has also been changed to PEARL, an acronym for Physical, Emotional, And Relational Learning.

Kimberly Warne, another blogger who says she spent two years at the Honor Academy, is critical of both TMM's ministry and financial practices.

“Over the last couple decades, Ron has grown this organization into a multimillion dollar machine by convincing thousands of young people to pay to work,” wrote Warne. “Sometimes he succeeds in molding these youth into his cookie cutter version of modern Christianity ... Sometimes he breaks them down into depression, faithlessness, and a lost sense of self.”

The beginning of Warne's post refers to accusations made in the documentary which suggest TMM's interns essentially pay the ministry in order to work long days in uncomfortable, even unsafe, conditions.

Hanegraaff also addresses these financial accusations, noting that the ministry is in “good standing” with the Evangelical Council of Financial Accountability, a financial accountability agency for Christian ministries.

“Finally, on a personal note, I have been acquainted with Ron Luce and TMM for over twenty years. I have found Ron to be a passionate father, husband, and ministry leader ... I have recognized him to be thoughtful, teachable, and thoroughly committed to the essentials of historic Christianity,” Hanegraaff wrote in his conclusion. “While I strongly disagree with Ron on various secondary matters, I stand shoulder to shoulder with him on the doctrines that form the line of demarcation between the kingdom of Christ and the kingdom of the cults.”

MSNBC denies claims that the film inaccurately portrays the ministry and says it has spoken with TMM's founder and president, Luce, about the disagreement.

Mind Control - How to Meditate: Turn out to be a Master in thirty Days

How to Meditate: Become a Master in 30 DaysHow to Meditate Like a Master Within One Month

Days 1-five

The first five days of the process are heading to be invested becoming aware of the issues that you're pondering about. There is truly no objective in this phase but to simply to sit on the floor with your legs crossed and spend attention to whatever ideas randomly spring into your thoughts. Do not try to focus on any one of these thoughts or concentrate your focus on any 1 factor. Merely observe and turn out to be aware of the random thoughts which are coming into your thoughts. Don't analyze them or try to repress them, this is the initial phase of creating the ability of meditation.

Days 6-10

During the 2nd 5 days you're going to be coaching your thoughts and physique to get into what's recognized as the hypnogic state, which is just in between sleeping and dreaming. This is a state which is comparable to that used during self hypnosis. To achieve this, lay down on your back and hold 1 of your arms at a 90? angle with the relaxation of your body. This way, just prior to you start dozing to rest your arm will fall and awaken you. You'll also carry on to observe your thoughts as they arrive into your mind just as you did throughout days 1 to 5. During these five days, or soon following, you might start experiencing some thing recognized as "sleep paralysis" when you wake up from sleeping at night.

Even though rest paralysis can be terrifying, it's essential to remember that this is merely your bodily physique becoming nonetheless asleep whilst you are aware and awake. It will generally pass as you progress through the subsequent phases of meditation...

Days 11-twenty

Throughout days eleven-20 of studying how to meditate, you're going to function on weeding the random ideas out of your head. To do this, you simply acknowledge a believed out loud that pops into your head like so:

"I'm pondering about checking my email"

"I'm thinking about watering my lawn"
"I'm thinking about what I'm heading to say to my boss at the meeting"

As you do this, you'll discover that the ideas quickly vanish from your consciousness as soon as you acknowledge them. Throughout this stage, you'll also be lying on your bed with your arm up to keep you from dozing off to rest. By the finish of these 10 days, you'll be prepared for the last stage of meditation...

Days 21-30

During the final ten days of learning how to meditate, you'll be refining the ability of remaining in the hypnogic state and clearing your thoughts of any ideas which might come into it. The only goal during these ten days is to be in a state of complete relaxed in mind, body and spirit. If you discover any ideas coming into your thoughts, simply follow the process of acknowledging them just as you did during days 11 to twenty. By the finish of this ten day time period, you'll have mastered the ability of meditation and you'll have already begun to see the benefits of more sound rest, lower stress levels, better concentration and more focused willpower.

Mind Control - Eight Ways to Spot Emotional Manipulation

Emotional Manipulation is Also "Covert Aggression." See: "Psychopaths: Wolves in Sheep's Clothing" Here is a list adapted from an article by Fiona McColl
  1. There is no use in trying to be honest with an emotional manipulator. You make a statement and it will be turned around. Example: I am really angry that you forgot my birthday. Response - "It makes me feel sad that you would think I would forget your birthday, I should have told you of the great personal stress I am facing at the moment - but you see I didn’t want to trouble you. You are right I should have put all this pain (don’t be surprised to see real tears at this point) aside and focused on your birthday. Sorry." Even as you are hearing the words you get the creeped out sensation that they really do NOT mean they are sorry at all - but since they’ve said the words you’re pretty much left with nothing more to say. Either that or you suddenly find yourself babysitting their angst!! Under all circumstances if you feel this angle is being played - don’t capitulate! Do not care take - do not accept an apology that feels like bullshit. If it feels like bullshit - it probably is. Rule number one - if dealing with an emotional blackmailer TRUST your gut. TRUST your senses. Once an emotional manipulator finds a successful maneuver - it’s added to their hit list and you’ll be fed a steady diet of this shit.
  2. An emotional manipulator is the picture of a willing helper. If you ask them to do something they will almost always agree - that is IF they didn’t volunteer to do it first. Then when you say, "ok thanks" - they make a bunch of heavy sighs, or other non verbal signs that let you know they don’t really want to do whatever said thing happens to be. When you tell them it doesn’t seem like they want to do whatever - they will turn it around and try to make it seem like OF COURSE they wanted to and how unreasonable you are. This is a form of crazy making - which is something emotional manipulators are very good at. Rule number two - If an emotional manipulator said YES - make them accountable for it. Do NOT buy into the sighs and subtleties - if they don’t want to do it - make them tell you it up front - or just put on the walk-man headphones and run a bath and leave them to their theater.
  3. Crazy making - saying one thing and later assuring you they did not say it.If you find yourself in a relationship where you figure you should start keeping a log of what’s been said because you are beginning to question your own sanity --You are experiencing emotional manipulation. An emotional manipulator is an expert in turning things around, rationalizing, justifying and explaining things away. They can lie so smoothly that you can sit looking at black and they’ll call it white - and argue so persuasively that you begin to doubt your very senses. Over a period of time this is so insidious and eroding it can literally alter your sense of reality. WARNING: Emotional Manipulation is VERY Dangerous! It is very disconcerting for an emotional manipulator if you begin carrying a pad of paper and a pen and making notations during conversations. Feel free to let them know you just are feeling so "forgetful" these days that you want to record their words for posterity’s sake. The damndest thing about this is that having to do such a thing is a clear example for why you should be seriously thinking about removing yourself from range in the first place. If you’re toting a notebook to safeguard yourself - that ol’ bullshit meter should be flashing steady by now!
  4. Guilt. Emotional manipulators are excellent guilt mongers. They can make you feel guilty for speaking up or not speaking up, for being emotional or not being emotional enough, for giving and caring, or for not giving and caring enough. Any thing is fair game and open to guilt with an emotional manipulator. Emotional manipulators seldom express their needs or desires openly - they get what they want through emotional manipulation. Guilt is not the only form of this but it is a potent one. Most of us are pretty conditioned to do whatever is necessary to reduce our feelings of guilt. Another powerful emotion that is used is sympathy. An emotional manipulator is a great victim. They inspire a profound sense of needing to support, care for and nurture. Emotional Manipulators seldom fight their own fights or do their own dirty work. The crazy thing is that when you do it for them (which they will never ask directly for), they may just turn around and say they certainly didn’t want or expect you to do anything! Try to make a point of not fighting other people’s battles, or doing their dirty work for them. A great line is "I have every confidence in your ability to work this out on your own" - check out the response and note the bullshit meter once again.
  5. Emotional manipulators fight dirty. They don’t deal with things directly. They will talk around behind your back and eventually put others in the position of telling you what they would not say themselves. They are passive aggressive, meaning they find subtle ways of letting you know they are not happy little campers. They’ll tell you what they think you want to hear and then do a bunch of jerk off shit to undermine it. Example: "Of course I want you to go back to school honey and you know I’ll support you." Then exam night you are sitting at the table and poker buddies show up, the kids are crying the t.v. blasting and the dog needs walking - all the while "Sweetie" is sitting on their ass looking at you blankly. Dare you call them on such behavior you are likely to hear, "well you can’t expect life to just stop because you have an exam can you honey?" Cry, scream or choke ‘em - only the last will have any long-term benefits and it’ll probably wind your butt in jail.
  6. If you have a headache an emotional manipulator will have a brain tumor! No matter what your situation is the emotional manipulator has probably been there or is there now - but only ten times worse. It’s hard after a period of time to feel emotionally connected to an emotional manipulator because they have a way of de-railing conversations and putting the spotlight back on themselves. If you call them on this behavior they will likely become deeply wounded or very petulant and call you selfish - or claim that it is you who are always in the spotlight. The thing is that even tho you know this is not the case you are left with the impossible task of proving it. Don’t bother - TRUST your gut and walk away!
  7. Emotional manipulators somehow have the ability to impact the emotional climate of those around them. When an emotional manipulator is sad or angry the very room thrums with it - it brings a deep instinctual response to find someway to equalize the emotional climate and the quickest route is by making the emotional manipulator feel better - fixing whatever is broken for them. Stick with this type of loser for too long and you will be so enmeshed and co-dependent you will forget you even have needs - let alone that you have just as much right to have your needs met.
  8. Emotional manipulators have no sense of accountability. They take no responsibility for themselves or their behavior - it is always about what everyone else has "done to them". One of the easiest ways to spot an emotional manipulator is that they often attempt to establish intimacy through the early sharing of deeply personal information that is generally of the "hook-you-in-and-make-you-sorry-for-me" variety. Initially you may perceive this type of person as very sensitive, emotionally open and maybe a little vulnerable. Believe me when I say that an emotional manipulator is about as vulnerable as a rabid pit bull, and there will always be a problem or a crisis to overcome.

Mind Control - Having Gratitude Is Having Strength

Getting Gratitude Is Having StrengthUsing gratitude is one in all the secrets that'll help us enjoy everyday living additional. It is a connection on the "Source of All That may be." It'll support you remove barriers and along while using reduction of stress, helps to maximize your self confidence and achieve your aims.

Devoid of a doubt, staying grateful goes a long way. We have to find out ways to be grateful when facing disappointment or sadness. We could often get caught up in a very vicious cycle within the, "if only" syndrome.

If only this or that might materialize, then we'd be grateful. If only I could lose that extra few kilos, get that special an individual to notice me, win the lottery... if only, if only, if only... If the event does transpire, we just overlook and transfer on to the upcoming want not having stopping to say thanks.

We may well emphasis a great deal of on that want or goal, we neglect to acknowledge all of the other matters we've got within our lives to get thankful for. There may be much we each and every be required to be grateful for but we often fail to remember to focus on the effective issues.

Find a comfortable position, consider a deep breath and permit it fill the lungs completely. Maintain it and attempt to take in additional air. Think the sensation because the air fills your body. Breathe until finally you can not hold any extra air, maintain the air in. Come to feel the sensation of the air inside our bodies. The pressure will probably cause you to a little uncomfortable. It's possible you'll sense as though you might be about to burst, so launch the air. Relax and allow it explode out, then pressure the last air out completely until such time as you've gotten not a single thing left.

How did it feel as soon as you permitted the air to escape? Felt great, like a total release? So, any time you are acquiring a hard time seeking to locate one thing to be grateful for, start with the breath. It gives you oxygen, without the need of which, you cannot survive. For those who are respiration, then you may be alive. And when you cannot acquire another factor to be thankful for, this by yourself, may want to be sufficient. Our drive to survive is really a stronger emotion than all else. The world is usually falling down all over you, associations coming apart, and stress unbearable, but if you should are however breathing, that suggests you happen to be alive, and you also can overturn all within your conditions and start off in excess of.

Repeat the exercise again. Basically, get it done a few moments in a row, breathing slow after which releasing it gradually, perhaps with a pause inside middle. If you do the exercise with the eyes closed, perhaps you may relax even way more. Now you've some thing to possess gratitude for, your ability to breathe and then the realization you are alive.

Mind Control - How to Be Happy on Purpose

“He who depends on himself will attain the greatest happiness”
~Chinese Proverb
I was at a Women’s Leadership Conference about a year ago and had an “ah-ha moment”. We were all introducing ourselves and asked to share a few things to help with the process. One question left me baffled and ultimately changed my life; “What do you do to make yourself happy?”.
At the time I honestly didn’t know. I had a great job, friends, and family. I was independent, young, healthy, and yet I couldn’t figure out what made me happy. I vowed that day that I would be happy on purpose because I was tired of waiting for happiness to happen.
It’s not been an easy road, but it’s been the most fulfilling adventure I’ve ever been on and I feel that I should now share what I’ve learned with others.

1. Know Yourself
“Today you are you, that is truer than true. There is nobody else who is you-er than you.”~Dr. Seuss
How many times have we heard “no one will love you until you learn to love yourself” or “nobody knows you the way you do”?

So get to know the right-now-real you, both the good and the bad, and own it. Write down your qualities, characteristics, values, strengths, and weaknesses. What makes you happy? What drives you crazy?

The good news is that if you don’t like certain aspects of yourself right now, you have it in your control to change that. But to change something you first have to know what you’re working with. So do some serious soul-searching and figure that out!

2. Discover who your idealized self is and start working towards that.
“Open your eyes and look within. Are you satisfied with the life you’re living?”
~Bob Marley

The question we all got asked when we were little was “what do you want to be when you grow up?” Now the question is “WHO do you want to be when you grow up?” You’ve taken a good hard look at who you are in this moment, and now is the time to figure out what’s next.

Think of the “ideal you” and start doing the things that your idealized self would be doing. There was an article on Pick The Brain a while back entitled “How To Fake It Until You Make It” in which the author, David Wright, suggests that we imagine the qualities that your idealized self has (the work it takes) and start putting them into practice.

It’s time to stop playing make-believe and to start taking action! Let’s DO this!!!
“You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself in any direction you choose. You’re on your own. And you know what you know. And YOU are the one who’ll decide where to go…”
~Dr. Seuss

3. Be Authentic
“I’m not in this world to live up to your expectations and you’re not in this world to live up to mine.”
~Bruce Lee
Always be true to yourself. When working towards becoming your idealized self it’s important not to lose sight of who you are in favour of who you think you should be. Don’t compromise your values, morals, or true personality. Your individuality is important! Some people live their lives trying to be more like somebody else. My question to you is this: If you’re trying to be somebody else, who’s going to be you?
There may be certain things about yourself that you’d like to change or improve upon, but be absolutely sure that you make these adjustments for yourself and for your best interest. If you change anything in your life for the sake of someone else, and it’s not really what you want, you will only become resentful and unhappy.
To be truly authentic, one must rise above the crowd and be a true individual. Find your truth; a reason for which to live and die.
“Few are those who can see with their own eyes and feel with their own hearts”
~Albert Einstein

4. Understand that you can only control yourself.
When there are no enemies within, the enemies outside cannot hurt you”
~African Proverb
As I started my journey to being happy on purpose, I realized very quickly how little in my life was within my control. I had no power over other people; others will do, think, and feel what they want and there’s little I can do to change or even influence that. I could only manipulate my environment and the things that happened to me to a certain degree.
I started to wonder if I could control anything in my life at all and I realized that I can only control myself. More specifically I had control over my attitude and my reactions to what the world throws at me.
For example, if you lose the life of a loved-one, you are going to have feelings of grief and even despair or anger. You need the grieving process as a human being and part of being authentic is being true to your emotions; otherwise you are in denial of what you truly feel and want. You can, however, choose the attitude of “moving on” or choose to dwell on it. You can choose to react by lashing out to those around you and hiding in your room with nothing but your grief and anger for company. OR you could choose to spend time with people who will make you feel better or immerse yourself in a project or work to keep your mind off things until you start to heal.
The idea that you have such little control over life might be scary for some, but you can also choose to look at it as freeing yourself from worry. If I have no control over something, there’s no point worrying about it because I can’t change it anyways. If I have control over it then I can take action, and again I no longer have to worry because something’s being done!
“If you don’t like something, change it. If you can’t change it, change your attitude.”
~Maya Angelou

5. Achieve balance in all things.
“Before Enlightenment – chop wood, carry water. After Enlightenment – chop wood, carry water.”
~ Zen Buddhist Proverb
There is a Yin and Yang; everything has its opposite, and the key is harmony between them. For example you must strike a balance between selfishness and selflessness. Chose either extreme you will quickly find yourself unhappy. If you always give to others you end up being useless to everyone because no one will take care of you for you, and a person who never gives to anyone will live a lonely and unfulfilling life.
The same can be said for striking a balance between your emotions and your logic. Are you being true to your emotions (giving them validation) or are you totally absorbed in them (giving them control)? Your logic and your emotions should work together to guide you in a balanced and healthy way of living.

6. Learn to let go.
Learn to let go of the things that are not within your control or that happened in the past. Instead embrace and work on your self-control and self-esteem. You will be more at peace with yourself and can then enjoy life despite what the world throws at you.
Ask yourself “How is this working for me?” Does it help you to feel sad or angry all the time? Is it productive and useful when you lash out when someone or something upsets you? Is it healthy to become obsessed about an issue, person, or event that you have no control over in the first place?
To let go is to fear less and love more. It means knowing that you can’t do it for someone else, that you have no control over another, and that the outcome is not in your hands. Letting go is making the most of yourself, not blaming another or trying to change them. It means caring about someone, not caring for them, and allowing another to make mistakes and be a human being. To let go is not to regret the past but to grow and live for the future.
“If things start happening, don’t worry, don’t stew; just go right along and you’ll start happening too.”
~Dr. Seuss

7. Give your life meaning and actively seek your inspiration.
“Love the life you live. Live the life you love.”
~Bob Marley
So many of us go around searching for the meaning of life or waiting for inspiration when really it’s within ourselves and up to us – no one will do this for you!
While at the Woman’s Leadership Conference I had the privilege of listening to our guest speaker, Canadian Olympic Gold Medalist, Clara Hughes. She shared with us that she suffers from Clinical Depression and that sometimes she gets so down in the dumps that she forces herself to ACTIVELY seek her inspirations. Clara stated that inspiration hardly ever just falls on your lap and that if you need it you have to go and find it for yourself.
Don’t look for the meaning of life; instead give your life meaning! One way that I did this for myself was by becoming a “mother” to something – I got a dog. His name is Charlie, and he’s been such a blessing for me. We’ve worked really hard on establishing a good relationship and I’ve learnt a lot being a “Pack Leader” for him. In doing what was good for Charlie (teaching him commands, working on his walking habits, regular grooming, giving him lots of love and work for him to do) I also became a better person. I learned to be more patient, how to be more assertive, and have become more active.
So go out there and find your meaning! Get inspired! Join a not-for-profit group, volunteer, get a pet, become a Big Sister or Brother, and go to some self-improvement or awareness workshops. Invest in yourself and you’ll soon reap the rewards of being content and feeling productive in your life.

8. Focus on the positive.
“There are two ways to live; you can live as if nothing is a miracle; you can live as if everything is a miracle”
~Albert Einstein
The expression “everything happens for a reason” annoys and upsets some people because it suggests that your path is predetermined and that The Fates or God is in charge of your life. The idea that a child dying of cancer, for example, is meant-to-be is frustrating and unfair; but the reality of it is that you have no control over your outside world. So I choose to think “in everything I have to find my own reason”. Instead of asking “why did this happen to me?” I ask myself “What positive thing can I find in this?” By focusing on the positive of any situation (and trust me if you look hard enough you’ll find it) I help keep myself positive and happy.
The good wouldn’t be as sweet without the bitterness of the bad. You go through the tough times to strengthen you for the excruciating ones to come. It’s in experiencing these tough times where you will truly be able to live with gratitude for what you have that is good.
“Some people feel the rain. Others just get wet.”
~Bob Marley

9. Surround yourself with like-minded people.
“A man should choose a friend who is better than himself. There are plenty of acquaintances in the world; but very few real friends”
~Chinese Proverb
Change is never easy. It’s even more difficult if the people you choose to spend time with aren’t the “right people”. Just ask someone who’s had to kick a bad habit (smoking, drinking, drugs, junk food, etc.) what it’s like being around people who haven’t quit or cut back yet. It’s easy to fall back into your old habits because they come with a certain comfort. It’s the same when you’re trying to be positive and happy and surrounding yourself with people who are negative and miserable. Misery loves company right?
So surround yourself, instead, with people in whose presence you feel optimistic, happy, and vibrant. If you can’t think of one person in your life that meets this standard it’s probably a good sign that you need to find new people!
I’ve had to “weed out” people who I thought were my friends – these were the people who always seem to be gossiping, talking about negative things, and focusing on the downside of every situation. I learned to be picky about the people I spend time with and limit the amount of time and energy I spend with those who tend to be toxic to my well-being. And no, it wasn’t fun or easy doing this, but it was worthwhile because they were just bringing me down.
Sit down and write out two lists for yourself – on one side write down the names of people who give you good energy and on the other side write down those who more often take your energy. Then try to steer clear of those who drain you and make an effort to spend more time with those who motivate you and are positive.
“Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter won’t mind.”
~Dr. Seuss

10. Keep going
“If you can’t fly then run, if you can’t run then walk, if you can’t walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward.”~ Martin Luther King Jr.
I was watching Firefly (2002-2003 TV series) and there was a saying that a few soldiers shared that was an even better version (I think anyway) of the Martin Luther King Jr. quote: “When you can’t run, you crawl. And when you can’t crawl you find someone to carry you”.
Sometimes you can’t do it on your own. But you can’t just stop either. I went and talked to my doctor about my depression when it got so bad that nothing I did seemed to make a difference. I talked to my friends and family about it and found support and love when I did. I got the help I needed when I could no longer do it on my own and it’s made all the difference in the world.
I’m proud to announce that I am doing much better now. I know what makes me happy and I do it for myself. I am purposely happy every day, even when it’s rainy and cold and everything seems to be going wrong.
“Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance you must keep moving”
~Albert Einstein
