Believing is Seeing: How Mindset Can Improve Vision
The researchers, led by Ellen Langer at Harvard University, were interested in how the mind and body connect, particularly how mindset affects the body's performance. Langer has studied this kind of connection for decades. "Many of the things that we think we can't do are a function of our mindset rather than our abilities to do them," she says. In this case, she was interested in whether what we think affects how well we see.
People expect to see only the first few lines on traditional eye charts. Volunteers in an experiment who read a eye chart arranged in reverse order (the letters got progressively larger, with the giant "E" in the last row) saw a greater proportion of the smallest letters than when they viewed a traditional eye chart.
Another experiment took advantage of the belief that pilots have good eyesight. College students in the ROTC were brought into a flight simulator, given army fatigues to wear, and told to fly the simulator. They did simple flight maneuvers, then did an eyesight test by reading markings on the wings of planes ahead - actually lines from an eye chart. A control group of ROTC students was put in the same conditions, but they were told the simulator was broken, and that they should just pretend to fly the plane. The people who had performed like pilots, as opposed to those who just pretended, saw 40 percent better.
These findings suggest that visual acuity is influenced by mindset and might be improved by psychological means. Just being aware of this might help people improve their eyesight, says Langer - if they pay attention to when they can see well and when they can't, for example, or simply believe that they can see better when they aren't sitting in a dark room at the optometrist's office. These findings along with others from Langer's lab lead them to question how many of our limits are of our own making. The research is part of a larger inquiry into the psychology of possibility.
Cheap Magic Tricks Behind Every Psychic
Cool article from Cracked.com and worthy of a tie-in to my book "The Handbook of Psychic Cold Reading".
~Dantalion Jones
I got into magic at the age of five. I stopped thinking psychics were real at the age of five-and-a-half. Mainly because most of them were doing tricks I had just read in the colorful magic book I had bought for three dollars the week before.
Somehow these people had been able to turn the sentence "Here's a neat trick that will amuse your family and friends" into "Here's a way to pretend you have God-like powers and convince crowds of credulous and needy people to give you their money." For them, that three dollar book certainly paid for itself.

If you want to follow their lead, allow me to present five things you must do if you want to use your cheap magician skills to convince the world you have real psychic powers.

There's an old adage that goes, "If it goes up, it's a trick. If it goes across, it's real." Basically it means the more impressive a trick looks, the less convinced most people will be that it's real.
For example, if a magician makes a crumpled ball of paper float up a meter into the air, do somersaults and then float back down, the audience knows there is obviously invisible thread or some other nefarious gimmick in use. If however, a psychic stares at the crumpled up paper ball for two minutes, straining to summon all of their psychic powers and then finally it moves three inches across the table, they figure it must be the real deal.

Of course, according to the laws of physics, making a ball of paper move one inch with the power of thought is exactly as impossible as making the entire Statue of Liberty disappear. This is based on a principal of magic called "the too perfect theory." It means deliberately weakening a trick to make it more believable. For example, if a magician is going to pretend to be psychic and predict three headlines that will appear in the next day's newspaper, then seal the predictions in an envelope to be revealed after the events, they will almost always deliberately get one wrong.
Predicting only two of the three correctly makes them seem suitably psychic and amazing, while not crossing the boundary that will make people suspicious. Kind of like when a kid cheats on a test, he'll always get a couple of answers intentionally wrong to throw the teacher off the scent.
Here, Nina Kulagina demonstrates beautifully how moving a salt-shaker half an inch will drive a bunch of scientists crazy:
|
If you can be seen doing it in grainy black and white footage instead of a glitzy Vegas stage surrounded by tigers and half-naked show girls, it also helps add a little bit of credibility. So remember, less is more when it comes to trying to appear psychic. Which brings us to another important point:

Diversity in the psychic trade will kill you. Find one trick you can do quite well and milk the hell out of it. Do it to death. Psychics with more than three tricks rarely make it big! Consider the most famous names of psychic history:
Uri Geller:
Spoon-bending, spoon-bending and more spoon-bending. And occasionally he'd duplicate a sealed-up picture for you.

If you had incredible psychic powers that could change the course of science and history how would you use them?
How about bending cutlery?
The Fox Sisters:
These girls started the whole spirit summoning phenomenon in the mid-1800s--and made Cracked's list of The Ballsiest Con Artists of All Time--but their trick was simple. They made ghost rapping noises by cracking their toes, and tying an apple to a string and banging it on the floor.
Based on only that, their home in New York was swarmed by people wanting to speak to the spirits, and the girls would gladly repeat this trick for anyone who asked. That's right; "psychic medium" John Edward would likely not have a career if it wasn't for two girls banging an apple against a bed.

Dr. Henry Slade:
After the Fox sisters made spiritualism big and the craze made its way to Europe, Henry Slade provided physical evidence from beyond with a trick involving two chalk board slates, the kind school kids used to write on. The participant would be asked to think of a question for the spirits. The slates would be placed together, some scratching sounds would be heard, the slates would be separated and a suitably vague Magic 8-Ball style answer would be written on the slates in chalk.

Though a well known magic trick nowadays, this made Slade a small fortune. By the way, there's no evidence "Dr." Henry Slade was actually a doctor, so he is one of a long line of entertainers that figured out when you have the title "Dr." in front of your name, no matter how ridiculous what you're saying is, people will still believe you.

James Hydrick:
Hydrick shot to fame in the early 1980s with an eerie psychic ability to move pencils along a table with his mind. He would then psycho-kinetically turn the pages of a phone book. It's pretty clear to any beginning magician how he moved these items--he blew on them. Skeptic James Randi eventually busted Hydrick, exposing his one trick. In fairness though, Hydrick could do this trick really, really well.
Again, you see how they all kept the previous rule in mind, and how really modest these tricks are. If James Hydrick had made the pencil move, then float, then dance a jig, not a single person would have believed him (OK, maybe I'm being optimistic here).
So pull out an old magic book, find a trick and do that trick over and over again till someone believes it's real.

OK, so you've got your one trick and you've made sure it doesn't stretch credibility too far. This is the trick you'll be taking around the world. Eventually, if you get famous enough, someone will try and bust you on it, by telling the world, "He's not moving the pencils with his mind, he's just freaking blowing on them!" Therefore it's crucial that, even though you only have one trick, you have more than one method of doing it.
For example, when James Hydrick went on That's Incredible in 1981 to show off his pencil-moving trick, the host was sure he had caught on to Hydrick's method, and he had (i.e. Hydrick was blowing on the pencil).

Sorcerer!
So then Hydrick offered to do the trick again, with the host's hand positioned over his mouth. From there, Hydrick simply repositioned the pencil right on the edge of the table, and used the air from the movement of his hands as they passed over the pencil to move it. Still a very simple method, but because it was not the one the host was looking for, Hydrick completely befuddled him, to the point that the show declared Hydrick genuine.
Skeptics often make this mistake, debunking the psychic by saying, "He's just ______________!" where the blank is just one specific method of doing the trick. This is perfect for someone like the spoon-bending Uri Geller, because, as far as I can see, he has several methods, some weaker than others, some using misdirection and some using gimmicked spoons.

In fact, it actually works better when one method has been debunked, thus giving you an audience who thinks they know how the trick is done. They're now "half-smart"--they know just enough to make themselves easier to fool. By doing trick another way (that precludes the technique they're looking for), you're using their knowledge against them.

To make it big as a psychic, you have to give people the message that your abilities are within everyone, and you are just able to harness them a bit more. This will be really tough for most magicians. Most magicians are, dare I say it, quite insecure people, and would like to make it clear that any powers demonstrated belong to them and them alone, making them a very special person worthy of worship and admiration.

You can't afford to do that in the psychic game. You'll get much further if you say anyone can do what you do (especially if you sell a pricey book telling them how). And show some concern for your fellow charlatans! You are supposed to be opening up a gateway for a warped belief system, sowing the seeds of vulnerability that others in your trade will then be able to exploit. Pretending these powers are exclusive to you is very selfish to your fellow scam artists!
Remember, even if you've decided to read tarot cards for someone for 20 bucks, you're setting that person up for a later visit to a medium who charges $700 per session when the victim has lost a loved one. So help spread the takings!

Please note, for legal reasons there is absolute no link between this picture and the previous paragraph

Speaking of John Edward, those of you with a keen eye may have spotted this message appear briefly at the end of his show:

For many audience members, the worlds of entertainer and genuine psychic are separated only by the inclusion--or omission--of a straightforward disclaimer. As many "mentalists" will attest, there are three categories of believers:
The first will assume you're faking it, unless you make an explicit statement that you're not using tricks. Then they believe it's real--even though the guy assuring them it's not a trick isn't exactly an impartial observer.
The second, more gullible group, will automatically assume it is all real unless you explicitly state you are doing tricks.
But then we have the third, surprisingly large group, who will continue to believe your ability is real even after you've said you're using trickery.

That's why John Edward can stick that disclaimer on his show and go right on collecting a paycheck. For more than a decade.

Illuminati Engineer Misplaces Prototype Mind-Control Phone

Originally posted at

An engineer for the Illuminati, the secret hand that manipulates global events as part of the New World Order, accidentally left his prototype mind-control phone at a San Jose-area bar while attending a birthday party several days ago. The monolith-like handheld device, with a touch screen surface and a mesmerizing app-centric payment model, was rumored to be the next step in the organization’s attempt at controlling the masses.
“This is really, really bad,” said an unnamed lieutenant from the Illuminati’s North American Networking Center, located under the CERN laboratory in Genève, Switzerland. “Naturally, when things happen, good or bad, we’ve manipulated those events to meet our unspecified, unfathomable, long term goals. But this is just bad. Our puppet Nixon never messed things up this much.”
Engazmodo, a popular online technology and conspiracy website, announced that it had acquired the lost device from a friend of a friend of a thief of a girlfriend of someone who worked at the bar. “It’s certainly the find of a lifetime,” said Raj Peters, the founder and editor of the site that paid $5,000 to obtain the unit. “It confirms everything we’ve ever believed, no matter what that is. We can’t turn the thing on or even figure out what its purpose is, but it still proves all we’ve been publishing for nearly a decade.”
Although the Illuminati had never previously acknowledged even the existence of the prototype technology, nor of its master control over every aspect of daily life, many pundits have expressed growing concern over its line of brain-management systems. Starting with the release of the Illuminati-Pod several years ago, the successful brainwashing program has reached hundreds of millions of citizens of the group’s single worldwide nation.
“These aren’t mind-control devices,” said an unnamed Illuminati spokesman sporting a black mock turtleneck shirt and faded jeans. “Repeat after me: These aren’t mind-control devices.”
“They are mind-control devices,” insisted Mr. Peters. “How else do you explain the constant shift between plastic and metallic back covers? And we’ve had alarming reports that the devices have started to mutate, changing from cute palm-sized devices to things that fill your lap. Shocking.”
Despite its editor’s concerns, Engazmodo has already returned the device to its owners. “Of course we returned it upon request. It’s not like this one phone is going to blow the lid off of centuries of financial and physical dominance of every biped on the earth. For that you’d need some kind of search engine that provided access to the entire Internet. Ha ha. Wake me when that happens.”

A posthypnotic of the night before (pointed finger, you will sleep) was enacted. Misses [deleted] and [deleted] immediately progressed to a deep hypnotic state with no further suggestion. Miss [deleted] was then instructed (having previously expressed a fear of firearms in any fashion) that she would use every method at her disposal to awaken miss [deleted] (now in a deep hypnotic sleep), and failing this, she would pick up a pistol nearby and fire it at Miss [deleted]. She was instructed that her rage would be so great that she would not hesitate to “kill” [deleted] for failing to awaken.
Miss [deleted] carried out these suggestions to the letter including firing the (unloaded pneumatic pistol) gun at [deleted] and then proceeding to fall into a deep sleep. After proper suggestions were made, both were awakened and expressed complete amnesia for the entire sequence. Miss [deleted] was again handed the gun, which she refused (in an awakened state) to pick up or accept form the operator. She expressed absolute denial that the foregoing sequence had happened.
Miss [deleted] felt reluctant about participating further since she expressed her doubt as to any useful purpose in further attendance. The Operator thereupon proceeded in full view of all other subjects to explain to Miss [deleted] that he planned to induce a deep state of hypnosis now. The reaction was as had been expected. Miss [deleted] excused herself to make a telephone call (defense mechanism?). Upon her return a very positive approach was adopted by the operator whereupon a deeper, much deeper state of hypnosis was obtained.
Immediately a posthypnotic was induced that when the operator accidently dropped a steel ball in his hand to the floor ... Miss [deleted] would again go into hypnosis. Miss [deleted] then advised that she must conclude her work for the evening. She arose to adjust her hair before the mirror. The ball was dropped and she promptly slumped back into the chair and back into hypnosis. It is the opinion of the operator the Miss [deleted] if properly trained (positive approach) will continue to improve.
Note: Here we have proof that these women could be converted into unsuspecting and even unwilling assassins. They could be programmed to assassinate anyone and would do so without any conscious knowledge afterward. Note also the questionable status of "volunteer" implied. Though these women originally volunteered, unwillingness to continue could be manipulated by the men running the program.

Changing thoughts key to battling even severe depression
http://www.physorg.com/news192888105.html
Moderate to severely depressed clients showed greater improvement in cognitive therapy when therapists emphasized changing how they think rather than how they behave, new research has found.
The results suggest cognitive therapists should concentrate, at least during the first few sessions, on using cognitive techniques to help those with more severe depression to break out of negative thought patterns and to see events in their lives more realistically.
The study found that a concentration on changing behavior - such as having patients schedule activities to get them out of the house, and tracking how they spent their time - did not significantly predict subsequent change in depressive symptoms.
"There has been a lot of attention recently on behavioral approaches to treating severe depression, and that may lead some people to suspect that cognitive techniques are not important for more severely depressed patients," said Daniel Strunk, co-author of the study and assistant professor of psychology at Ohio State University.
"But our results suggest that it was the cognitive strategies that actually helped patients improve the most during the first critical weeks of cognitive-behavioral therapy."
Strunk conducted the study with Melissa Brotman of the National Institute of Mental Health and Robert DeRubeis of the University of Pennsylvania. Their results appear online in the journal Behaviour Research and Therapy and will appear in a later print edition.
The study involved 60 patients who were diagnosed with major depression and who were being treated at two university clinics.
All the patients were being treated by one of six cognitive therapists and agreed to have their therapy sessions videotaped for study.
Two trained raters reviewed the videotapes of the first through the fourth therapy sessions. They rated how much the therapists relied on cognitive and behavioral methods and other aspects of the sessions.
In addition, patients completed a questionnaire at each session that measured their depression levels.
The researchers examined the relationship between specific techniques used by their therapists and the extent of improvement in patients' depression scores from one session to the next.
The study focused on the first few weeks of therapy because other studies suggest that is when patients make the largest improvement in depression levels, Strunk said.
Results showed that patients' depression scores improved significantly when their therapists focused on cognitive techniques, but didn't change when their therapists focused on behavioral techniques.
Other factors were also associated with patient improvement, the study found.
Patients improved more when they collaborated with their therapists about a plan for treatment and followed that plan.
Not surprisingly, patients also showed greater improvement when they were more engaged in the therapy process and were open to suggestions from their therapist.
"If you're a patient and willing to fully commit to the therapy process, our data suggest you will see more benefit," Strunk said.
Strunk said this research is being continued at Ohio State's Depression Treatment and Research Clinic. Researchers there are working with people suffering from depression to understand the nature of cognitive change and how it affects their improvement.
"We're trying to understand if cognitive therapy leads people to a profound change in their basic self view, or if it teaches them a set of skills that they have to continually practice over time," he said.
Strunk said these results suggest that, despite the recent attention given to behavioral approaches to treating depression, cognitive techniques appear to be quite powerful.
"In our sample of cognitive therapy patients, cognitive techniques appeared to promote a lessening of depression symptoms in a way that was not true of behavioral techniques," he said.

Taking Psychodelic Drugs Helps!!

In this April 13, 2010 photo, one gram of psilocybin, the psychoactive ingredient in hallucinogenic mushrooms, is seen on a scale at New York University in New York. A study being conducted at the university examines the effects of hallucinogenic drugs on the emotional and psychological state of advanced cancer patients. (AP Photo/Seth Wenig)
(AP) -- The big white pill was brought to her in an earthenware chalice. She'd already held hands with her two therapists and expressed her wishes for what it would help her do.
She swallowed it, lay on the couch with her eyes covered, and waited. And then it came.
"The world was made up of jewels and I was in a dome," she recalled. Surrounded by brilliant, kaleidoscopic colors, she saw the dome open up to admit "this most incredible luminescence that made everything even more beautiful."
Tears trickled down her face as she saw "how beautiful the world could actually be."
That's how Nicky Edlich, 67, began her first-ever trip on a psychedelic drug last year.
She says it has greatly helped her psychotherapeutic treatment for anxiety from her advanced ovarian cancer.
And for researchers, it was another small step toward showing that hallucinogenic drugs, famous but condemned in the 1960s, can one day help doctors treat conditions like cancer anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder.
The New York University study Edlich participated in is among a handful now going on in the United States and elsewhere with drugs like LSD, MDMA (Ecstasy) and psilocybin, the main ingredient of "magic mushrooms." The work follows lines of research choked off four decades ago by the war on drugs. The research is still preliminary. But at least it's there.
"There is now more psychedelic research taking place in the world than at any time in the last 40 years," said Rick Doblin, executive director of the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies, which funds some of the work. "We're at the end of the beginning of the renaissance."
He said that more than 1,200 people attended a conference in California last weekend on psychedelic science.
But doing the research is not easy, Doblin and others say, with government funders still leery and drug companies not interested in the compounds they can't patent. That pretty much leaves private donors.
"There's still a lot of resistance to it," said David Nichols, a Purdue University professor of medicinal chemistry and president of the Heffter Institute, which is supporting the NYU study. "The whole hippie thing in the 60s" and media coverage at the time "has kind of left a bad taste in the mouth of the public at large.
"When you tell people you're treating people with psychedelics, the first thing that comes to mind is Day-Glo art and tie-dyed shirts."
Nothing like that was in evidence the other day when Edlich revisited the room at NYU where she'd taken psilocybin. Landscape photos and abstract art hung on the walls, flowers and a bowl of fruit adorned a table near the window. At the foot of the couch lay an Oriental rug.
"The whole idea was to create a living room-like setting" that would be relaxing, said study leader Dr. Stephen Ross.
Edlich, whose cancer forced her to retire from teaching French at a private school, had plenty of reason to seek help through the NYU project. Several recurrences of her ovarian cancer had provoked fears about suffering and dying and how her death would affect her family. She felt "profound sadness that my life was going to be cut short." And she faced existential questions: Why live? What does it all mean? How can I go on?
"These things were in my head and I wanted them to take a back seat to living in the moment," she said. So when she heard NYU researchers speak about the project at her cancer support group, she was interested.
Psilocybin has been shown to invoke powerful spiritual experiences during the four to six hours it affects the brain. A study published in 2008, in fact, found that even 14 months after healthy volunteers had taken a single dose, most said they were still feeling and behaving better because of the experience. They also said the drug had produced one of the five most spiritually significant experiences they'd ever had.
Experts emphasize people shouldn't try psilocybin on their own because it can be harmful, sometimes causing bouts of anxiety and paranoia.
The NYU study is testing whether that drug experience can help with the nine months of psychotherapy each participant also gets.
The therapy seeks to help patients live fuller, richer lives with the time they have left.
Each study participant gets two drug-dose experiences, but only one of those involves psilocybin; the other is a placebo dose of niacin, which makes the face flush.
The homey NYU room where Edlich had been getting psychotherapy was the setting for her drug experiences. She had brought along photos of her son, grandchildren and partner. She met with two therapists she'd come to trust, knowing they would stay with her through her hours under the influence.
Taking the drug followed a ritual, including the chalice and the hand-holding, because ritual has been part of psilocybin's successful use for centuries by traditional cultures, said Ross, the lead researcher.
After swallowing the white pill, Edlich perused an art book for about a half-hour while waiting for the psilocybin to take effect. Then she lay on the couch with headphones and listened to music with eyeshades over her eyes.
After her vision of the brilliantly colored dome, Edlich went on to two more experiences involving parts of her life. She won't describe those much, even to friends. They "brought me profound sadness and profound grief" but also transformed her understanding of what was important to her in the areas of relationships and trusting, she says.
She sat up and talked with her psychotherapists about what had gone on. And after nine hours in that room, she went home and wrote 30 pages in a diary about what had happened. And she thought about it for weeks afterward.
Did the drug experience help?
It let her view the issues she was working on through a different lens, she said.
"I think it made me more aware of what was so important and what was making me either sad or depressed. I think it was revelatory."
All three people in the study so far felt better, with less general anxiety and fear of death, and greater acceptance of the dying process, Ross said. No major side effects have appeared. The project plans to enroll a total of 32 people.
Ross' work follows up on a small study at the University of California, Los Angeles; results haven't been published yet, but they too are encouraging, according to experts familiar with it.
Yet another study of psilocybin for cancer anxiety, at Johns Hopkins University, has treated 11 out of a planned 44 participants so far. Chief investigator Roland Griffiths said he suspected the results would fall in line with the UCLA work.
In interviews, some psychiatrists who work with cancer patients reacted coolly to the prospects of using psilocybin.
"I'm kind of curious about it," said Dr. Susan Block of the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston. She said it's an open question how helpful the drug experiences could be, and "I don't think it's ever going to be a widely used treatment."
Ross, meanwhile, thinks patients might benefit from more than one dose of the drug during the psychotherapy. The study permits only one dose, but all three participants asked for a second, he said.
Edlich said her single dose "brought me to a deeper place in my mind, that I would never have gone to ... I feel a second session would even take me to more important places.
"I would do it a second time in a New York minute."

Psychological Mind Control
The writer of this 'Killer mentalism Manuscript' seems to want his identity to remain somewhat of a mystery as he is known only as 'Charlie X'. Perhaps understandably, there are many professional magicians and hypnotists alike who would sooner see this product off the market!
Why?
Well firstly because the tricks revealed are simply stunning, not your usual magic or mentalism effects, you could seriously build a godlike reputation with this stuff. And second, ITS EASY TO DO!
I seen similar effects to these performed on TV and didn't just think, 'wow thats pretty cool magic', I screamed 'where did this guy get his supernatural abilities'.
That's no joke, I actually believed that real life long dedication had went into to meticulously perfecting subtle psychological suggestion and clever mind manipulation.
So when I stumbled across this Killer Mentalism Manuscript I was very curious to see how it all worked. The author assured me that I would be able to do it myself almost immediately after reading the manuscript, I remained skeptical but decided to put it to the test.
I was a little 'miffed' at the beginning, it was different to what I thought it would be. But as I read on and the principles behind the techniques started to sink in I couldn't help but smile, this is very, very clever stuff. Downright devious! :)
Apparantly there is only going to be a limited run of 500 manuscripts made available, but its still available as I write this so check it out at:
Who knows how long the remaining copies will last but I have a hunch it won't be long.

Great Hypnosis Resources For You
Covert – which is secret, undetectable and considered to be the closes thing to real mind control and Overt – which is when the subject knows he or she is being hypnotized
In order to really master the powers of persuasion & influence you need to master all forms and styles of hypnosis.
Sometimes, of course, the line gets a bit blurred.
I’m sure you have heard of Dr. Milton Erickson. He is easily one of the most powerful hypnotists who has ever lived. When he talked – people listened!
He lived in a time when hypnosis was scorned, and often feared. Hypnosis was considered to be a form of mind control and this scared people. As he worked in a hospital, he was often ridiculed by other doctors for being ‘ a hypnotist.’
These same doctors were often seen standing, semi conscious and catatonic, in the middle of hospital corridors, with their arm out as if they were about to shake someone’s hand…
Erickson appeared to have an almost mystical “control and influence” over people when he spoke. He could speak and literally change the lives of those he spoke too.
Milton Erickson would not be half the hypnotist he was, if he didn’t master both the covert and overt styles of hypnosis.
So, if I told you about a free resource site which would provide you with articles, resources, tips, techniques, links and training materials in overt AND conversational hypnosis, would you be interested?
What if I mentioned that it was run by a Hypnotist called Joshua Houghton, who, not only trains others but also has a bit of a reputation as a conversational hypnotist.
As a marketer and real estate investor in his spare time, Joshua has ethically used conversational hypnosis skills to earn tens of thousands of dollars, which is probably why he is willingly giving away his secrets free, at his hypnosis website.
With articles from both Joshua and other world renown experts in the fields of overt and covert hypnosis, prepare to discover a brilliant resource that will help you master hypnosis, influence and persuasion.
When you get there, make sure you sign up to his newsletter. There you’ll get instant access to a wealth of free hypnosis training and information, as well as insider tips and the latest in hypnosis news and updates.

The Central Thing You Need To Achieve Your Goals
Simply wishing for success is insufficient. If anyone is to make any steps towards their definite objectives then they need to have a determined attitude, bordering on obsession, to fulfil that desire. It does not matter what your desire is. It may be a desire to excel in business, it could be a desire to learn a new skill, or it could involve a desire to change aspects of your personal life.
Whatever desire a person has, it will only be fulfilled if some of the following actions are taken. Firstly a person must realise what it is they need to make them content with their lives and give themselves step by step aims. Then they need to consider how much work they need to put in if they are ever to begin achieving those aims. Next they should set a deadline for reaching their final goal and then create a plan with a timeline highlighting how and when they will go about their tasks. This knowledge must be updated and read out regularly to keep a person on track to satisfying their desire.
All who achieve great things adopt a similar philosophy when setting themselves goals. The best writers, artists, sportsmen, inventors, musicians and scientists, along with many other pioneers of modern professions, all follow the process of putting their thoughts into action successfully when backed by a burning desire. Everyone, no matter what their chosen path in life may be, will start in the same situation with nothing but their thoughts and desires to spur them on.
Many people lack self confidence and are unwilling to set their aims higher through fear of failing. This sometimes develops due to people close to them discouraging them because they feel they are unrealistic with their goals and life choices. It may be that friends and family do not approve and so use ridicule to prevent their loved one from making what they feel is a mistake.
However, these people need to realise that we live in a world that continually throws us new and unique opportunities. The world only became modernised with the efforts of the creative and productive generations before us. Without the burning desire that these people had we might never have discovered the power to travel abroad by plane, communicate with the other side of the world by phone, order something from overseas by the net. With the development of technology and the industrialisation of the world, we now have more job opportunity and diversity than we have ever had.
The time for everyone to realise their dreams is now. We must continue to follow the same methods of pioneers before us by taking the courage to act upon our thoughts with conviction and fulfil our burning desires. It is important that all negative influences are avoided. There is no excuse for
procrastination, and laziness. It is easy for people to say they want to achieve but in reality they will only start to realise their goals once they take those first steps in which they make a plan outlining the route to success.
Everyone has to start somewhere and not everything will go to plan. What is fundamental to success is that a person is not discouraged by initial failure. Most people who have claimed to have ‘made it’ in life will also be the first to admit that they had failures along the way. With every failure comes the chance to learn something new for another opportunity.
All achievements no matter how significant they are to others begin with a burning desire to get the result intended. In the human mind there is a power that is hard to explain. It is the ability to focus positive thoughts on achieving the thing that is wanted most. Success is sometimes a thing that at first seems impossible. When a burning desire in a person is so strong the word impossible loses significance.

The art of mindreading -- empathy or rational inference?
Prof. Elke Kalbe and colleagues from the Institute of Neuroscience and Medicine at the Research Centre Juelich and the Neurological University Clinic Cologne, Germany, studied a group of male volunteers as they performed a computerized task, which assessed their abilities in both emotional and rational inference. The researchers then applied repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) to a part of the brain thought to be involved in rational inference - the right dorsolateral prefrontal cortex - in order to interfere temporarily with the activity in that part of the brain and test its effect on the ToM abilities of the volunteers.
The findings showed that the temporary interference in this particular area of the brain had an effect on the rational inference abilities (cognitive ToM) of the volunteers, but not on their abilities to infer emotions (affective ToM). "The study corroborates the notion that cognitive and affective ToM are functionally independent and that these subcomponents are mediated by at least partly different neural pathways", notes Prof. Kalbe. Although the distinction between these two aspects of "mindreading" had already been made, the brain pathways for rational inference processes had not been well understood previously.
Coauthor Prof. Matthias Brand, from the University of Duisburg-Essen, adds that this new study "specifically underlines the relevance of the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex for cognitive aspects of ToM". He also points out that this suggests that certain skills and behaviours known as "executive functions", such as cognitive flexibility and set-shifting, may be important while the brain is working out what someone else is thinking.

Nowak, Manuel Dafotakis, Christopher Bangard, Matthias Brand, Simone Shamay-Tsoory, Oezguer A. Onur, and Josef Kessler, and appears in Cortex, Volume 46, Issue 6 (June 2010).

Seven Steps to your first Out-Of-Body Experience
Once you are aware that you cannot be harmed by projecting, you should begin monroe's techniques, step by step.
Step one: Relax the body.
According to Monroe, "the ability to relax is the first prerequisite, perhaps even the first step itself" to having an OBE. (out of body experience) This includes both physical and mental relaxation. Monroe does not suggest a method of attaining this relaxation, although Progressive Muscle relaxation, coupled with deep breathing exercises (inhale 1, exhale 2, inhale 3.... until 50 or 100) are known to work well.
Step two: Enter the state bordering sleep.
This is known as the hypnagogic state. Once again, Monroe doesn't recommend any method of doing this. One way is to hold your forearm up, while keeping your upper arm on the bed, or ground. As you start to fall asleep, your arm will fall, and you will awaken again. With practice, you can learn to control the Hypnagogic state without using your arm. Another method is to concentrate on an object. When other images start to enter your thoughts, you have entered the Hypnagogic state. Passively watch these images. This will also help you maintain this state of near-sleep. Monroe calls this Condition A.
Step three: Deepen this state.
Begin to clear your mind. Observe your field of vision through your closed eyes. Do nothing more for a while. Simply look through your closed eyelids at the blackness in front of you. After a while, you may notice light patterns. These are simply neural discharges. They have no specific effect. Ignore them. When they cease, one has entered what Monroe calls Condition B. From here, one must enter an even deeper state of relaxation which Monroe calls Condition C-- a state of such relaxation that you lose all awareness of the body and sensory stimulation. You are almost in a void in which your only source of stimulation will be your own thoughts. The ideal state for leaving your body is Condition DA. This is Condition C when it is voluntarily induced from a rested and refreshed condition and is not the effect of normal fatigue. To achieve Condition D, Monroe suggests that you practice entering it in the morning or after a short nap.
Step Four: Enter a state of Vibration.
This is the most important part of the technique, and also the most vague. Many projectors have noted these vibrations at the onset of projection. They can be experienced as a mild tingling, or as is electricity is being shot through the body. Their cause is a mystery. It may actually be the astral body trying to leave the physical one. For entering into the vibrational state, he offers the following directions:
1. Remove all jewelry or other items that might be touching your skin.
2. Darken the room so that no light can be seen through your eyelids, but do not shut out all light.
3. Lie down with your body along a north-south axis, with your head pointed toward magnetic north.
4. Loosen all clothing, but keep covered so that you are slightly warmer than might normally be comfortable.
5. Be sure you are in a location where, and at a time when, there will be absolutely no noise to disturb you.
6. Enter a state of relaxation
7. Give yourself the mental suggestion that you will remember all
that occurs during the upcoming session that will be beneficial to your
well-being. Repeat this five times.
8. Proceed to breath through your half-open mouth.
9. As you breath, concentrate on the void in front of you.
10. Select a point a foot away from your forehead, then change your point of mental reference to six feet.
11. Turn the point 90 degrees upward by drawing an imaginary line
parallel to your body axis up and above your head. Focus there and reach out for the vibrations at that point and bring them back into your body.
Even if you don't know what these vibrations are, you will know when you have achieved contact with them.

Croatian teenager wakes up from a coma speaking fluent GERMAN
Croatian doctors are baffled after a teenage girl who fell into a mysterious coma woke up speaking fluent German.
The parents of the 13-year-old from the southern town of Knin said their daughter had only just started studying German at school and had been trying to read German books and watch German television - but had never been that good in German.
But since waking up the teenager has been unable to speak Croatian and even refused it, but communicates only in perfect German far superior to her mastery of the language she had when she was taken ill.
Mystery: A girl from the Croatian town of Knin, pictured, has baffled doctors after she could speak fluent German after waking up from a coma
Split's KB Hospital director Dujomir Marasovic said they were still trying to find out what caused the mysterious coma and why the girl has apparently forgotten how to speak Croatian.
Marasovic added: 'You never know when recovering from such a trauma how the brain will react. Obviously we have some theories although at the moment we are limited in what we can say because we have to respect the privacy of the patient.'
He said the condition was so unusual that numerous doctors have examined the 13-year-old including German-speaking doctors to try and get to the bottom of the mystery.
Nurse Marika Lenovic, 28, said: 'The case has attracted a lot of interest, not just among the media but also among medical professionals.'
The girl is still being cared for at the hospital and is receiving regular visits from her family although there has reportedly been a large degree of frustration at the fact that they can no longer communicate with each other.
Hospital staff have even had to use an interpreter to translate the teenager's words to her family although apparently when they speak to her in Croatian she does understand - but she cannot respond in anything other than German.
Psychiatric expert dr Mijo Milas who has been involved in the case said: 'In earlier times this would have been referred to as a miracle, we prefer to think that there must be a logical explanation - its just that we haven't found it yet.
'There are references to cases where people who have been seriously ill and perhaps in a coma have woken up being able to speak other languages - sometimes even the Biblical languages such as that spoken in old Babylon or Egypt - at the moment though any speculation would remain just that - speculation - so it's better to continue tests until we actually know something.'
The teenager was only in the coma for 24 hours, and it's thought it may have been prompted by extremely high body temperature.
